Best of GreenBuild Webcast Series - Understanding the Legal Landscape of Transparency for Designers
If you missed 2014 GreenBuild, now is your chance to see some of the top-notch sessions that were recorded.
Our industry is in the early stages of a transformational discussion of materials and human health. Consistent with the now established calls for communication of ingredients in food labeling, designers are asking that building product ingredients be disclosed. Prompted by questions from practitioners arising from new transparency tools and disclosed ingredients, in October 2013 BuildingGreen hosted a dialog among legal counsels from four architectural practices, “Increased Transparency, Increased Liability?” Core contributors from the original webinar will reconvene to reflect on changes to the industry over the first year of v4 and the new MRc4, “Building Product Disclosure and Optimization.” What predicted issues have arisen and what surprises have emerged? Does asking for HPDs expose a firm to additional liability? What is the responsibility of design professionals to assess the danger, the hazard, or the exposure based on disclosed information? Without disclosure, isn’t it easier to argue that the manufacturer bears that responsibility entirely?
