The USGBC NF Nonprofit Chapter embarks on many different types of initiatives each year.  Our focus as a 501(c)(3) non-profit striving for a sustainable region by 2040 is education, awareness, and market transformation.  We have THREE main types of initiatives in addition to our numerous partnerships with other similarly aligned organizations.

Awareness Initiatives

  • LiveSMART Mobile Unit – taking green building and sustainability education TO the community with a “green home on wheels” trailer to large events, schools, and business campuses.
  • Green Apple Day of Service – one green project in every North Florida school annually usually during September
  • Sustainability Officers Round Table – accelerating sustainability locally through empowering sustainability managers
  • Green Carpet Film Series – fostering dialogue and awareness on sustainability issues through films
  • First Coast Green Pages Website & Web App (with review and forum capability) – regional directory to help community purchase sustainably and locally
  • Green Lion Festival – annual local festival promoting awareness of green-focused businesses, innovative organizations, and community outreach   
  • Green Socials – having fun while learning more about green building and sustainability efforts in the region

Education Initiatives

  • Best of Greenbuild Monthly Webcasts – helping LEED Green Associates and LEED APs affordably keep up with their credentialing
  • 20.40 Talks – Inspired by PechaKucha and TED Talks, a dynamic format of 3 thought leaders in one hour on creating a sustainable region by 2040 hosted every quarter
  • Innovation Forums – infusing the latest green products, technologies, and services into our community
  • Experience LEED First Hand -- participate and watch a local school seek LEED EBOM
  • Building & Product Tours – providing tours of local green buildings and products
  • Annual Awards Celebration – annual celebration of the best green projects and champions in the region

Policy Initiatives

  • Greening the Multiple Listing Service – educating stakeholders on the value of broadly sharing the green features of homes listed in the local Multiple Listing Service databases
  • Sustainable Building Ordinance Adoption – working with cities and counties to adopt market and incentive-based SBO’s
  • Green Apple Day of Service Designation -- working with school boards, cities and the State of Florida to designate GADOS as an annually celebrated event
  • Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) -- working with cities and counties to set up PACE jurisdictions
  • Sustainability Officers & Plans -- working with cities and counties to hire Sustainability Officers and create municipal and regional long-term sustainability plans with targets and metricss
  • ACEEE City Energy Efficiency Scorecard – help Jacksonville improve its score on this biannual report
