LiveSMART (Sustainable Materials & Resource Trailer)

LiveSMART is a mobile unit that goes out TO the community and provides direct education on sustainable living and green building practices including energy efficiency, water conservation, safe and environmentally-friendly household chemicals and personal care products, how to chose and take care of your heating, ventilation and air conditioning, rain barrels, and more.  This overview shares the intent and details of this initiative.

The goal is to visit as many big events such as festivals, professional games, and home and patio shows on the weekends and schools, home owner associations, business campuses, and churches during the week.  We want to help consumers be smart consumers and save money while being environmentally-friendly and sustainable at the same time.

If you are interested in having LiveSMART visit your school, workplace or organization, please reach out to Sarah Boren at or 904-535-0055.

2014 One Spark Project -- LiveSMART received 3rd most votes!

We are SO excited that LiveSMART received the third most votes in the technology category of 2014 One Spark Crowdfunding Festival. Our team of volunteers was fabulous!

The next key step for the LiveSMART mobile unit is to get it completely built out and scheduled at events starting in the fall. Please consider helping out in some way -- donate a product or service, volunteer, sponsor, help spread the word via social media and flyers...

It is thanks to a generous grant from the CSX corporation that the Chapter is able to buy the trailer and enter it into 2014 One Spark Crowdfunding Festival.

THANK YOU LiveSMART sponsors for supporting sustainability and your local community!

Goals of the LiveSMART Mobile Unit

After learning from a fellow USGBC Chapter on the west coast (C4 Chapter) that they were able to reach 40,000 people in their first year and activate 5% of those 40,000 people to take at least one sustainable action with their mobile unit, we knew we wanted to something similar for the NE Florida region.

In short, we want to inspire, educate, activate, connect, and create demand and jobs for green building and sustainable living.  By providing clear, concise, and objective information TO the community, we hope to convey the many benefits of building, retrofitting, operating, and living sustainably. From easy, no cost steps and making your home healthier and high performing to full blown net zero and learning about green infrastructure throughout NE Florida, there is something for everyone on the LiveSMART (Sustainable Materials and Resource Trailer) mobile unit.

We have a GREAT team!

Tom Norman with Ebert Norman and Brady Architects is donating his time and expertise to design the LiveSMART mobile unit.

Rusty White is the contractor on this project and he is with Carlton Construction which is the only Southern Living Magazine Custom Home Builder in our region and has a lot of green knowledge.

Pam Rodgers is donating her wonderful eye and talent to making the mobile unit clean, sharp, and on message.

We need volunteers to help us make the Mobile Unit a huge success.

We need:
  • Content Partner Coordinator -- someone who will reach out to other organizations in alignment with our sustainability mission and see if they want to participate in the mobile unit with content and on-site programming. We want this mobile unit to be "everyone's mobile unit"
  • IT Engagement & Data Management Guru -- someone who will help us figure out how to best to convey the information people want in various electronic formats (e.g., QR codes, websites, video, etc.)
  • Webpage and Forum Builder -- someone who keeps the mobile unit webpage fresh, up-to-date, and useful to the NE FL community and helps maintain a forum where the community can ask questions and find the answers they need to take action.
  • Social Media LiveSMART Guru -- someone who loves Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google +, Pininterest, etc. and would be willing to help create and execute a social media content and marketing plan for the mobile unit.
  • Sponsor & Partner Coordinator -- someone who will help create and coordinate a sustainable partnership and sponsorship campaign geared toward providing high visibility on the mobile unit and electronic collateral materials for those who believe in sustainability
  • On-site volunteers -- people willing to "staff" the mobile unit in 2 hour shifts at big events such as the Home & Patio Show and Jazz Festival and smaller gatherings like home owner associations and schools.
  • Product and Resource Researchers -- we need help with researching local and sustainable products and services for direct product donations and to build up our list of local resources for the community to use and be aware of
  • "Jane/Jack-of-all-Trades" Volunteers - we didn't know there so many things to coordinate and that we would need help with!  Please consider offering to help with general things like promotion (posting flyers in a local zip code before a mobile unit event), research, and simply sharing your energy.

LiveSMART Mobile Unit Needs Sustainable Product Donations

We are currently in the build out stage of the mobile unit and we need local and sustainable products!  We need sustainable flooring, HVAC displays, a toilet, window film, rain barrel, and lots, lots more!

In return for your approved and generous donation, we will give your company and product visibility.

If you have questions, ideas, products, contact Sarah Boren at 904-535-0055 or at
